If you can't make it out to the benefit concert Wednesday night, tune in to KBDI Channel 12 from 8 p.m. - 9 p.m. to watch SAFER Campaign Director Mason Tvert and Sensible Colorado Executive Director Brian Vicente square off with Colorado Attorney General John Suthers and Commander Lori Moriarty from the North Metro Drug Task Force LIVE on Colorado Inside Out Live with Peter Boyles. Despite his vocal opposition to the marijuana initiative and his call for a "head-on, outright debate about legalization," this is the first time Suthers has actually agreed to step into the ring with Tvert and SAFER. You might remember that when the petition drive kicked off on March 1, Tvert challenged Suthers and Colorado Governor Bill Owens--who called for a "statewide marijuana showdown" following the passage of I-100 in Denver--to sign the petition to put the statewide initiative on the ballot so we could have this debate. They both declined the invitation. Nevertheless, SAFER is glad to see Attorney General Suthers is willing to take the first step toward this "head-on, outright debate" by actually showing up for it.

Last night the Colorado State University chapters of the Libertarian Party (LPCSU) and Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) hosted a formal rally for SAFER's initiative to make marijuana legal for adults in Colorado. Nearly 100 students and community members came out to hear from an impressive cross-section of speakers. Thanks to Sensible Colorado Executive Director Brian Vicente, Libertarian Party of Colorado Chairman Travis Nicks, and Poudre Valley Green Party leader Nancy York for coming out and speaking in support of the initiative. At the end of the rally, LPCSU President Seth Anthony announced that more than 1,000 signatures have already been collected at the CSU campus, and the LP-SSDP Alliance is aiming for 2,536 signatures by the end of the spring semester. This is the number of votes the SAFER initiative at CSU garnered when the students voted overwhelmingly in favor of it in the 2005 CSU student election. A small benefit party for the campaign was held at the Cheba Hut afterword with music provided by CSU's own Modus. Thank you again to all the political party leaders, student organizations, students, bands, local businesses, and Fort Collins, Greeley and Loveland community members who came out and made last evening possible. Will you be able to vote this coming November to make marijuana legal for adults in Colorado? How about your friends? Family members? Co-workers? The SAFER Marijuana Voter Project (MVP) was established to inform eligible Colorado voters of the opportunity to make marijuana legal in Colorado and to ensure these individuals are registered to participate in the SAFER Colorado marijuana initiative by signing the petition and voting for our proposed measure. If you are not registered, please visit the Secretary of State's site to get registered. All you have to do is fill in the on-line form, print it out, and send it in. Just follow the instructions and it is easy. Absentee ballot request forms are also available to be downloaded and submitted via mail or in person. Please also encourage your friends and family to do the same! After all, if there is ever a time when peer pressure is a good idea, it would be to push those you know to get registered to vote on this November's historic marijuana initiative. Hey, everybody's doing it... If you are interested in becoming a SAFER MVP and helping to register voters at concerts, on campuses and at other events, please contact us.

![]() Alcohol use is far more harmful than marijuana use to both the user and to society, and Colorado citizens are fed up with a system that punishes adults for using marijuana while allowing -- and often encouraging them -- to use alcohol. It is time our government stop driving people to drink and allow them to make the safer choice.
